Welcome to The Real World.
Sal and Dave have taken the huge decision to sell their house in the city and move into the sticks where property is cheap. This website will document their progress through renovating and selling their house in Brisbane to finding and purchasing their land. Then will come adapting to life off the grid
First things first, read this book.
I first read Un-Jobbing about four years ago and it really struck a chord. I badgered my wife Sallyanne to read it and, eventually she did. It makes perfect sense to both of us. We have both read the book over and over and now have a plan in place to join The Real World before the end of 2017.
Many people will say that we will be leaving the real world but they haven’t read Un-Jobbing. They’re still hanging on to the belief that life means you work until you’re 65 and hope that you can afford to retire.
Sallyanne and I are tired of life in the city. Tired of paying our mortgage. Tired of the electricity and water bills. Tired of buying all of our food at the supermarket. We have had enough of the heat and humidity of Brisbane. And the traffic.
This website and blog will document our preparing our house in Brisbane for sale, hopefully to be complete by September 2017, and our purchase of some land in rural Queensland.
We can’t afford to buy our new property until we sell our house in Brissy so, although we have a wonderful 80 acres picked out, there’s nothing more we can do until we have the cash. However, there’s plenty of land out there and we will be able to find something suitable for us. All we have to do then is build a house…
Now, we’re not here to give any of you advice! All we are doing is documenting the process of selling up and moving out into the sticks. We are researching off grid power systems and septic systems and such like but we really don’t know what we are doing at the moment!
Once we have moved and have our systems in place we will be able to start advising but, until then, please do your own research. We will post links that we have found useful but, again, these are not recommendations – they’re just there to help your research.
